HISTORY

of Kampung Sungai Lima

Kampung Sungai Lima was established in 1880’s by Chinese immigrants from Tong An, a district in the province of Hokkien in China. The village was not affected by WWII and the colonials because of its remote location. Sungai Lima has since gradually grown to be one of the main suppliers of dried shrimps and is hence named “the village of dried shrimps”. During its peak, Sungai Lima produced 80% of dried shrimps in Malaysia  (七星网 要走入历史 申请列文化遗产)
